THE RELEASE OF THE LORD

This is a short pamphlet of thirty-six pages but representative of the theme and burden of this man of God who was born in 1888 and passed into the Lord’s presence in 1971.  He began his ministry as a Baptist Pastor in three London churches.  During that period he was also linked with Jessie Penn Lewis and her publication called ‘The Overcomer” but in 1926 he, along with several others pioneered a church ministry in the south of London called Honor Oak.  Many of his writings are in print and available from the Emmanuel Church mentioned above.  There is also a tape ministry available.  SPARKS TAPE MINISTRY PO BOX 2434 SUGAR LAND.  TX  77487-2434.  USA.  A further source of Sparks ministry is available in the form of a mail out pamphlet from THE GOLDEN CANDLESTICK TRUST, VAN DER DUYN VAN MAESDAMSTRAAT 89, 7391 VK TWELLO.  THE NETHERLANDS.  These are sent out about four times each year.  The centrality of the Lord Jesus, His Person and His work, His present exaltation and coming again, these are all strong emphases in the everything that Sparks spoke.  To him the Lord Jesus is very much alive, head of His church, can be known personally and in the midst of His churches as the One carrying His purposes out to their final climax and culmination.  T (Theodore) Austin Sparks traveled widely in the ministry, meeting and influencing prominent leaders in other lands such as Watchman Nee of China, Bahkt Singh of India and Stephen Kaung in Richmond Virginia.  His ministry continues to be read and listened to on cassettes with great profit.  Everything you read of His will lead you to Christ as Lord, the pamphlet mentioned above is a compilation of three articles written and published in the magazine which Sparks edited for many years entitled A Witness and A Testimony.  These articles regard that book of Acts as the history of ‘The Release of the Lord’.  He thereby locates the out pouring of the Spirit as being from Christ enthroned and facilitating the working of Christ through His church so that Christ be glorified in His released ministry through His body.  As I say, this is typical of the burden the Lord placed in this particular servant.  It is good to draw your attention to this man and his ministry and those wishing to read will be consistently built up in their faith in Christ and focus their lives and their churches upon His presence as the vital reality for all life and ministry.  If you go to the trouble of obtaining and reading some of Sparks’s ministry you will not be disappointed.
