GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD

Taken from the edited evangelistic sermons of R.T. Kendall preached over a period of the year on Sunday evenings in Westminster Chapel in 1982 this book takes up the story of Joseph and illustrates the way God calls, works and prepares His vessels for His service.  It traces out the stages of the life of Joseph as he matures under the hand of God into a man able to leave his vindication with God.  Central to the book is the way total forgiveness towards his brothers figured prominently being demonstrated in a commitment to love.  As the chapters unfold there are a number of most helpful insights.  That the life of Joseph is a mine of golden truth will be evident to any reader.  This book could well help ministers and preachers in their preparation and encourage them to take up Joseph as serious subject matter for sermons in their churches.  R.T. Kendall shows the sovereignty of God as He worked in His chosen vessel and the perfection of His timing in all things.  No coincidences, no chance, but rather the delight of God fashioning His man and the joy of that man as he more and more came into the knowledge of God and likeness to Him.  The delight of being a saviour to his brethren, being able to feed them in love and be part of God’s ongoing purposes as revealed to his great grandfather Abraham is challenging to contemplate.  The main themes of the book concern the principle of vindication and preparation for service.  Also, the matter of learning to love and experiencing God’s love for us whereby we are freed from guilt as Joseph freed his brothers from guilt is powerfully stated.  Running like a thread through the book is the outline of the gospel in that Joseph prefigured the Lord Jesus as the Saviour of mankind.  The concluding words of the book refer to God’s goodness in making all things work together and this sums up the substance of the book as it carries us through the life and experiences of Joseph
