A delightful book concerning the life to come.  You must excuse one or two sections in which Mary the mother of the Lord is afforded particular honour in the later tradition of Roman Catholic dogma but the richness of the main body of the book will more than repay a slow and steady read.  A book to ponder prayerfully and duly rejoice in that which awaits those who live to the glory of God while here below.  F.J. Boudreaux wrote the book sometimes in the 1860’s and it was first published around 1870 in the USA.  He was a member of the Society of Jesus and his writing breathes a reverence for God and joy in Him.  It is available for Kindle and also can be reprinted to order very cheaply although the print is tiny.  Everything about heaven for this writer is based on the eternal joy of the soul enjoying the beatific vision (the happy making vision).  We shall see His face.  Secondly the emphasis is on how we shall know as we are known, the wonder of the resurrection body and the faculties glorified by which we shall see and know even as we are known.  Everlasting intimacy, the perfect come, the absence of all that offends, there is a lot covered in these few pages.  The author uses many aspects of life as we now know it to develop his thoughts as to how we shall be in that newness of life, the nature of the resurrection body with all its powers though material in substance yet glorified spiritually.  He confesses the difficulty of explanation and borders on revelation at times as he writes.  There is a lengthy section as to the meaning of the heavenly life  in that the glorified saints shall vary in their glory and yet without envy.  Here are a few chapter headings to whet you appetite, four chapters on The Beatific Vision, then, the beauty and glory of the risen body, the spirituality of the risen body, the impassibility and immortality of the risen body, some errors to be avoided when considering these things.  And thus the book ends with a chapter on the eternity of heaven’s happiness.  Amen, A wonderful little book and one to reread from time to time.
