A Gospel Primer for Christians

This is a little gem.  You notice that it is for Christians and would be good daily reading for those mature in the Lord too, for we will never grow up beyond the need to remind ourselves of the truths that make up the glorious gospel of God.  This is a solid, substantial book and provides a real overview of gospel truth, though less than one hundred pages long.  It is a tool that could be used daily to great personal profit.  The first section is divided into thirty-one small parts, each of which rehearses a particular aspect of the gospel and the results of living grounded in what God has done.  Succinctly this author has given us a way of understanding the gospel and its effects more profoundly, reflecting on it and embracing it to ones own heart.  Anyone disciplining himself or herself in the way the author advocates is sure to experience the power of the gospel more consistently.  You do not read a book like this straight through, it needs a ‘little by little’ and ‘precept upon precept’ approach, it is a ‘primer’ after all.  Divided into four sections in all, the first three use the first person singular (I, me and my).  This is an aid to personal confession and personal testimony concerning our individual relationship to God through His gospel.  You could read these words aloud, for some that would be real help and challenge.  “A Gospel Narrative” is the title given to the second section, which is a prose statement beginning with the glory of God and ending with ‘my’ salvation.  The third section is a restatement of the truth but this time in a poetic form.  The book concludes with the personal testimony of the author as to how the book came into being.  I think that there will be many who will find their hearts resonating with what he has to say.  Throughout the first three parts every statement is given a scripture reference and these are not simply the references themselves but the texts also.  A primer is a book that deals with the basic elements of a subject and this describes precisely what you will find here.  I would commend that leaders of churches get a copy of this and rehearse to themselves it contents as the author recommends, I suspect that doing so will lead to a desire to encourage others to get a copy too.
